Callwood Rum Distillery, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

The Callwood Rum Distillery is the oldest operating rum distillery in the Caribbean.  They've been producing rum at the same location for around 200 years.  There is no official tour, but we found a friendly young man who told us about the various rums they produce and we tasted each of them.

Callwood Rum Distillery is located in the Cane Garden Bay area of Tortola, very close to the Glass Studio and the beach.  If you are in the area, it is definitely worth the stop.  It is like stepping back in time, and it gives you a real appreciation of the history of the island.

FYI - If you'd like to take photos, they ask for a $2 donation.

The Glass Studio, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Following a recommendation from a friend (thanks, Tara!), we stopped by to visit the glass studio near Cane Garden Bay.  They have quite an operation going and it's all in the name of going green and doing good things for the island!

They take used bottles from the bars and restaurants and turn them into beautiful works of art.  Not only does it help reduce waste on an island that is not equipped for recycling, but it teaches employable skills to locals.  We were given a fully narrated demonstration and it was quite fascinating.

It was well worth the visit.  And of course we left with some glass treasures for souvenirs!
